Short Training Course on “Public Sector Procurement Management” in Collaboration with LUMS

A four days training program from 9th May 2016 to 12th May 2016 on “Public Sector Procurement Management” was organized by Punjab Resource Management Program (PRMP) in collaboration with Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) at its Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC). The initiative has been taken on the directions of Chief Minister, Punjab as he is very keen and has the vision to train the officers of Punjab Government in the relevant areas of their service so that they can cope with the emerging challenges. In this regard, CM Punjab has especially directed P&D Department, Punjab to organize first training course on Public Procurement Procedures.

It was the first batch of training and the second batch will commence from 23rd to 26th May 2016. The first batch consisted of 27 participants (25 Govt. Officers & 2 Private Contractors). The batch was much diversified in terms of years of experience, seniority, expertise/skills and departments. The module of training has been designed/developed by the professional faculty of LUMS.. The training sessions were the blend of class lectures, exercises, class discussions, group work and presentations.

While addressing the inaugural session MD, PPRA, Mr. Ali Bahadur Qazi highlighted the importance of PPRA rules and procedures and explained that a procuring agency, while making any procurement, shall ensure that the procurement is made in a fair and transparent manner, the object of procurement brings value for money to the procuring agency and the procurement process is efficient and economical.  The four days training course went very well in a professional manner. The guest speakers have also been invited during four days for sharing of their practical experiences with the participants on procurement. At the end of the training evaluation performas were filled by the participants. The overall feedback from the participants has been excellent. Everyone has commended the efforts of PRMP, P&DD, Punjab for organizing this kind of a training course in one of the best rated institute of Pakistan.

The Secretary P&D Department, Punjab, Mr. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo was the chief guest at the closing ceremony/ distribution of certificates to the participants. He was quite satisfied with the feedback given to him both from LUMS resource persons and participants. He appreciated the efforts of PRMP, P&D Department, Punjab for providing such a cultured platform to the Punjab government officers where they have the ample opportunities to acquire the required knowledge in relevant areas. He also cherished the LUMS faculty for their up-dated knowledge on the subject and their way of coaching the participants. He said that P&D Department, Punjab wants to have this working relationship with LUMS on a long term basis. He further mentioned the upcoming training courses at LUMS from PRMP, P&DD and hope that all these trainings would be beneficial and helpful for enhancing the skills of officers.
